   Roger Wardell

Roger is a news writer for Citytv in Toronto and has a background rich in both news and sports.  

Roger served two seasons as a beat reporter covering the Toronto Maple Leafs of the NHL and hosted television broadcasts of the Toronto Marlies of the AHL. He was the play-by-play announcer of the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL. He has produced and provided commentary for Fight Card Boxing. 

Roger has also worked in the news industry as a Producer and Anchor.  More than just a face or voice, Roger understands the inner workings of the television industry and can help shape and mold an entire production.

Host - of all Toronto Marlies broadcasts.  Roger acts as host and also conducts interviews with the players between periods.

[2002 – 2005]      Toronto Maple Leafs, Mojo Radio AM640

Maple Leafs Reporter – providing reports for the stations newscasts, as well as conducting 1-on-1 interviews for the "Leafs Tonight" pre-game show.

Sideline Reporter – during Argonauts broadcasts. Roger broke the Joe Montford-Gary Etcheverry dispute story from the sidelines. National Newspapers quoted information from Roger’s Sideline Reports.


[1995 – 2006]      Kitchener Rangers, Rogers TV


Play-by-Play Commentator – For the Kitchener Rangers of the O.H.L. winning a Rogers “Prix Impressions Award” for Best Sports Coverage.  Roger called the OHL Championship game in 2003.


Host/Play-by-Play – voice of Canadian University football, volleyball and basketball.


Award Winner – Did the call of the Water-Skiing and Wakeboarding Competitions at the 1998, and 2002 Ontario Summer Games. The coverage won a “National Galaxi Award” in the “Information and Lifestyle” category handed out by the C.C.T.A. 


Host/Editor/Scriptwriter – of the Series called “Hometown Heroes.” It includes the popular episode on Walter Gretzky.

Reporter - Covering various Sports for the Television operation including the Leafs and Toronto Bluejays.

C.F.L. Pre-game Feature - during broadcasts of Tiger-cats Football. Roger’s well researched features became a favourite among football fans.

Play-by-Play Commentator – for the Smoke of the Colonial Hockey League, now known as the United Hockey League.

Announcer/Game Host - for the Edmonton Oilers Farm Team. Our "Game Day Events and Promotions" were named the “Best in the A.H.L.”

Public Address Announcer/Columnist – for this Jr. B Hockey Team run by Pat “Whitey” Stapleton. Roger learned a lot about the game from Pat.
